Every piece in our catalogue began as a commission. A client described a space, a feeling, a need — and something was made to answer it. That is still how we work.

What This Is

A bespoke commission is not a custom order.
It is a creative act — one that begins
with your vision and ends with something
the world has never seen before.

Two Approaches

There are two ways to work with us on a bespoke piece. The first is to begin with something that already exists in our catalogue and reinterpret it — adjusting scale, material, finish, or proportion until it is precisely right for your space. The second is to begin with nothing: a sketch, a reference, a description of a feeling, or simply the dimensions of a room. We will design the piece from first principles.

Both approaches result in the same thing: a single original work, made once, for you.

What Can Be Changed

Scale & Proportion

Every dimension is adjustable. A dining table can be lengthened to seat twenty or scaled for a private study. A chandelier can be reworked for a double-height entrance hall or a low residential ceiling.

Material Selection

Cast bronze, natural stone, Murano glass, premium fabrics, full-grain leathers, and solid hardwoods — each available in a range of treatments and sourced individually for the commission.

Finish & Patina

Bronze can be raw, brushed, oxidised, or mirror-polished. Stone can be honed, flamed, or leathered. Each finish is applied by hand and specified for the piece, not selected from a catalogue.

Soft Seating Fabric

Choose from our curated selection of bouclé, mohair, velvet, linen, and premium hides — or supply your own material as a COM or COL commission.

Structural Alterations

Beyond surface changes: leg geometry, base configuration, arm height, backrest angle, glass configuration on lighting pieces. If it affects the character of the work, it can be reconsidered.

Entirely New Designs

For clients who have a specific idea that exists nowhere in our catalogue — we will design it from scratch. Share a sketch, a reference, or a description and we will develop the piece from first principles.

The Process

The Brief

You describe the space, the feeling, and the idea. We listen — not just to what you say you want, but to what the space itself seems to be asking for.

Design Development

We develop the design proposal — drawings, material specifications, and finish references. For complex pieces, this stage includes physical material samples sent to you directly.

Approval & Production

Once the design is confirmed, production begins. You receive updates at key milestones. Nothing proceeds without your agreement at each stage.

Quality Review

Before the piece leaves our atelier, it is reviewed in full against the specification. We photograph it in detail. If anything falls short, it does not ship.

Delivery

The piece is individually packaged and shipped to your address. Tracking is provided throughout. Upon arrival, each piece is inspected and its serial number registered to you.

On Time

Bespoke works take time. The casting, hand-finishing, and quality review that each piece undergoes cannot be accelerated without compromising the result. We will tell you clearly, at the beginning, how long your piece will take — and we will keep to that timeline.

As a general reference: adaptations of existing catalogue pieces typically require twelve to sixteen weeks. Entirely new works, from design development through delivery, typically require sixteen to twenty-four weeks depending on complexity and material sourcing. We will give you a precise timeline at the point of commission.

We do not offer expedited production. A piece that has not had time to be made correctly is not a Palena piece.

COM & COL

We accept commissions where the client supplies their own fabric (COM — Customer’s Own Material) or leather (COL — Customer’s Own Leather). This is particularly common for trade clients working within a project’s established material palette.

To commission a COM or COL piece, please provide the material specification — including fibre content, weight, and supplier details — at the time of briefing. Our team will advise on yardage requirements and any structural considerations.
