El Mar modular sectional, channel-tufted boucle on a continuous polished bronze base

Design Narrative

El Mar

Never the same shape twice.

The Inspiration

Water Never Sits Still

El Mar means “the sea,” and the name isn’t decorative. Waves don’t hold one shape for more than a second, they roll, break, flatten, and reform, constantly rearranging themselves against whatever coastline happens to be in their way.

That restlessness became the starting point for the sectional. Instead of one fixed silhouette, El Mar was built as a system: modules that reconfigure into a U-shape, a long serpentine curve, an open arrangement, or a fully enclosed one, so the piece can reshape itself to whatever room it’s given, the way water always does.

The Design

Ripples You Can Sit In

Every module is deeply channeled, run through with vertical tufting that catches light and shadow in a steady, repeating rhythm, less like furniture upholstery and more like the surface of water caught mid-ripple.

Underneath it all runs a single, continuous plinth in high-polished bronze. However the modules are arranged, wherever the “coastline” bends, that base never breaks. It reads as one unbroken line of light, the horizon holding steady while everything above it moves.

Built To Move

A Sofa With No Fixed Shape

Most sectionals have a correct configuration. El Mar doesn’t. Arrange the modules into a tight U for a private den, stretch them into a long serpentine curve along a wall of glass, leave it open on one end or close it into a full enclosure, the choice is entirely about the room, not the furniture. Rearrange it next year and it’s a different piece entirely, without changing a single component.

Where The Idea Comes From

The Same Rhythm, Twice

Waves, never still, always finding a new shape against the shore.

One System, Every Room

Built To Reshape Itself

The same channeled silhouette and continuous bronze base carry across a compact sofa, a classic sectional, and the fully modular system, so the same idea can furnish a reading nook or an entire great room.

A Sofa That Moves Like Water

El Mar was never meant to sit still in one configuration forever. Rearrange it as your space changes, choose from a wide range of upholstery and base finishes, and the idea underneath stays exactly the same: furniture built to move the way the sea does, restless, reflective, and never quite the same twice.
